Updated: May 5, 1998 Charge to the Level 3 Trigger PDR Committee =========================================== Review to be held May 15, 1998, at LBL. The Level 3 Trigger has been previously reviewed in August 1997. At that time, the requirements and conceptual design were subject to review (PDRR & CDR). In this review, the committee is asked to consider: A. 1. the detailed design and its compliance with the requirements; 2. any changes since August 1997 in the requirements and design; B. 1. the practical feasibility of the architectural design and its current implementation, including any concerns about its timely implementability, taking all interfaces into account; 2. the detailed estimates of rate reduction capability on simulated events and weaknesses in this simulation approach, focussing on the primary physics goals of BaBar; 3. the current estimates of the Level 3 Trigger computing requirements, including CPU and memory consumption; C. 1. the needs of the Level 3 group from outside Level 3; 2. the manpower needs of the group (e.g. postdocs and students); and 3. ways you wish to guide the group in areas of concern to you on topics such as a) Level 3 participation in Mock Data Challenge 2, b) integration with the Online Event Processing system, c) level of user support for new or upgraded filter tools (including documentation), d) Level 3 participation in the Cosmic Ray Run of Fall 1998, e) the relative scheduling of completion of implemenations that address the long list of requirements (i.e. priority setting), and, f) the date and scope of the next review, the Final Design Review. The committe is asked to provide a concise report in a short time in order to reduce its work for itself and in order to give rapid feedback to the Level 3 group which faces a few very critical weeks ahead. To this end, please circulate a draft report for factual correction by Larry Gladney and the Level 3 group by Tuesday 1pm PDT and the final copy to Fred Kral by Wednesday 5pm May 20, 1998. Please include in the report _only_ your concerns and advice to the Level 3 group and BaBar management. If the committee divides up the tasks and each committe member writes a paragraph or two, the report should not be a lot larger than two pages. The committe is thanked in advance for its valuable assistance to the Trigger Group. Regards, Fred
