BaBar Level 1 Global Trigger Final Design Review Charge to Committee ==================================================================== Introduction ____________ The design of the BaBar Level 1 Global Trigger (GLT) subsystem was reviewed in November, 1997. The GLT system contains one front end crate interfaced to one Readout Module (ROM). The GLT crate contains one GLT module, consisting of one 9U algorithm board and one 6U interface board. There are 2 spare GLT modules. At this review, the Committee will be presented with test results of the prototype system and a test plan for validating all GLT modules. The Committee should consider whether testing of the prototype module has demonstrated that it meets the specifications, and that there is a plan for automatic and robust verification of all three production units. Specific Charge _______________ The committee should investigate these areas: (1) any significant changes to the design since the last review, (2) the response to the report of the last review, (3) the testing of the algorithms and other functions of the modules, (4) the testing of all internal and external interfaces, (5) the proposed plan for testing and validating the production units, including hardware and software to support these tests, and, (6) the plans for commissioning the Global Trigger in time for the upcoming BaBar cosmic ray run. Logistics _________ The committee is expected to submit an informal 2-page report to Fred Kral, jfkral@lbl.gov, by Friday October 2, 1998, after giving the Global Trigger team an opportunity to make factual corrections or clarifications. Please include in the report _only_ your concerns and advice to the Global Trigger group and BaBar management. If the committee divides up the tasks and each committe member writes a paragraph, the report should not be a lot larger than one page.
