BaBar Trigger Meeting Minutes for Tuesday August 26, 1997 _________________________________________________________ Material is on the Web, accessible from Trigger page buttons. Aug 26 "L1T Status and Planning" L1T Status __________ 1. EMT status Paul Dauncey Hardware: Senerath Galagedera reported progress in making a light-weight fast control protocol that only uses command and sub-command fields. The FC FPGA is not simulated yet. The command module is in progress. The schematic is going to the drawing office for capture system. Teststand: Neil Dyce reported a difficulty that meant he has to log onto RAL. There is no CPU at Bristol at this time. 2. DCT status Fred Kral TSF: Board Simulation is still going well. The status was communicated in a note by Krista Marks. The team is almost finished with unit delay and soon (beginning of next week) hopes to do back-annotated simulation (full timing). In parallel, the TSF is being readied for layout. Plan is to submit a netlist in around 2 weeks. BLT: Gerber files have been submitted to a board vendor for fabrication. They are waiting for go-ahead from LBL. The group will finish reviewing the layout Tuesday, and barring any flaws, will tell them to proceed. Fabrication will be done with 2-week turn-around. PTD: no activity. Fast Control FPGA: Armin Karcher sent a note that there are two changes in fast control about to be implemented. 1. (This should not affect anybody) Currently the address was stored in the fc address registers only during a write address command. In the future a write command (which contains an address) also updates the address register. 2. The slower clocks (clk16...clk2) will no longer be multiply driven. The BLT is already using externalclock drivers, so there is no netlist change. The PTD might need updating... clk 2 will be attatched to one of the freed-up clk4 pins. Teststand: Ted Liu has written code and graphical interface for read and write of all types of lookup tables. Fixed a bug in the SVT teststand code. This completes the necessary functionality for the initial BLT tests. He will not proceed much further until BLT prototype arrives. 3. Crate distribution status Fred Kral LBL group is just about to place an order for one front-end crate. 4. GLT status Su Dong Schematic: Jeff Olsen is testing routing the front-end of the GLT since this is a challenging part. A technician is involved in this process. Pins have been picked for J2 and J3 backplanes. The GLTI is already routed. FPGAs: Main news is that the BMX logic equation has changed to be outputting 20 phi bins (granularity of M clusters). Simulation of Match FPGA is in progress. Teststand: Will use the playback method. Plan to use the Drift Chamber test setup, using the VROM (virtual ROM). Su Dong has talked to Dave Nelson and Dave Coupal about this. Will need to fabricate extra VROM for this purpose. Jeff Olsen has a VME crate that probably can be used for the test stand. Manpower: Victor Serbo will be joining SLAC as a postdoc on September 1, splitting his time between BaBar (TRG) and SLD, his thesis experiment. He will start work on the teststand software. Planning ________ 5. Planning "Online and Offline software" mtg all phone meeting on September 9 The proposed agenda for September 9 was discussed. Result of discussions will be put into two documents: (1) a short updated agenda and (2) a list of things needed for the September 9 meeting. Both are in preparation. 6. Adding another meeting before October 7? all September 23 is Caltech workshop maybe add September 30? GLT PDR is tentatively scheduled for October 6. GLT group will probably ask for an informal meeting at LBL two weeks before the PDR. EMT PDR will probably be mid October. Paul Dauncey advised not to tie the dates of the two PDRs to each other, in case of delays. He can travel to attend both reviews. Neither GLT or EMT groups wanted an extra phone meeting in September. 7. Comments on "who's who" and "tla" web pages all People were encouraged to keep people and TLAs up to date in these web pages. 8. Future Meetings and other dates o August 28 L3T phone meeting o September 9 TRG phone meeting "Online and Offline Software" o September 11 L3T phone meeting o September 25 L3T phone meeting o October 6? GLT PDR (tentative date) o Mid-October EMT PDR; Online mini-review See the Web page for latest info on things affecting TRIGGER group.
