Synchrotron Radiation

Detector Geometry and Response

Simulations are done using release 0.8.1 of BBSIM together with a modified gnbpip package. The simulations include the material of the interaction region but do not include any detectors. Electrons and photons are tracked down to kinetic energies of 10 keV. Particle hits are scored at cylinders centered on the IP and recorded in ntuples. Some of the ntuple variables are shown in the figure below.

Simulations of the Commissioning Interaction Region

  • Approximate IR geometry is included in latest gnbpip package (includes tilted pipe but needs final Q4 adjustments)
  • Hits are scored at 2 cylinders:
    • r = 4.7 cm, |z| < 84 cm
    • r = 5.5 cm, |z| < 250 cm
  • Lost particle ray files being produced by Adil Hasan: almost ready
  • Synchrotron radiation cross-checked against Mike Sullivan's power levels: final testing stage

Simulations with the Final Interaction Region

  • Final IR geometry for |z| < 280 cm (between Q2 septums) is included in V00-03-00 gnbpip package.
  • Hits are scored at 4 cylinders:
    • r = 3.0 cm, |z| < 17.5 cm
    • r = 6.0 cm, |z| < 20 cm
    • r = 14.5 cm, |z| < 46 cm
    • r = 22.0 cm, |z| < 225 cm
  • Lost particle ray files from Dave Coupal have already been run (see material from March 22 TV Meeting)
  • Synchrotron radiation now includes tip scattering: final testing stage
