Subject: Isobutane usage

Nando & Bill,

FYI, There is an environmental limit on the amount of isobutane that BaBar
can dump into the atmosphere. In calendar 2001 we came close to this
limit. The current permit that we have (issued by the Bay Area Air Quality
Control Board) allows 2600 lbs per year. I am told that we can apply for a
new permit with a larger limit if we need it.

We should be fine for calendar 2002 since we have a long shutdown.

If you are contemplating increasing the gas flow, we may need to request
a new permit. Also, note that there is no limit on dumping Freon 134a.
