Data Format

Last modified: 18 October 1998

Where to find the data:

$BFROOT/data/data03/dcdata/dch
This is where you can find the data files. Files are named runnnn where nnn is the run number.
The data files are copied to this NFS directory before being written to the tape.
Interesting data are kept here as long as the space allows, while junk runs are erased after copying to the tape.
Tape in the silo
The data are written to a tape in the silo for archiving. The tape can be read from SLAC server machines (e.g. morgan and percheron) using stagein command.

How to stagein:
The easiest and recommended way is:

cd $BFROOT/data/data03/dcdata/dch
revive runXXX

The script revive will send a correct request to the staging system, which will read in the data to a staging disk and create a symbolic link runXXX for you. Don't mind if the link is already there, or if the data itself is there: revive and stagein will (at least should) take care of all the details.

Run Start Date/Time Events HV Threshold Readout/Calibration Status Comments QA plots
1658 6/25/98 20K 2020V 240mV 9 FEAs read out: a full vertical wedge, and three wedges with only two boxes (FEAs 1 and 2) instrumented GOOD   ps file and hot/dead channels
1674 6/28/98 20K 2020V 240mV 9 FEAsread out GOOD possible instabilities in gas composition ps file and hot/dead channels
1678 6/29/98 20K 2020V 240mV 6 FEAs, forming two complete chamber wedges GOOD Warning: Repeated events have been found, most likely present in previous runs as well! ps file and hot/dead channels ChebyCal ChebyCon
1688 7/01/98 7K 2020V 240mV 23 FEAs  read out, forming a complete lower quadrant and nearly complete upper quadrant (one box missing). OK the wire mapping was not correct for the lower quadrant (it appears as a side quadrant). So rather than seeing straight tracks going through all 80 layers, you'll see two tracks with phi differing by pi/2.

One of the trigger 'wires' was noisy, reconstuction uses only one trigger 'wire' but the corresponding TOF correction is still missing; result: degraded resolution

ps file and hot/dead channels ChebyCal ChebyCon
1690 7/03/98 20K 2020V 240mV 22 FEA's read out, forming a complete lower quadrant and nearly complete upper quadrant (outer two FEAs in wedge with least acceptance are missing   wire mapping should be fixed ChebyCal ChebyCon
1719 7/11/98 40K 2020V 240mV 3 wedges: 4,5,12, which will appear as 3,4,11 Done Half of the events have the bit 0x80000 ("BAD_DATA") set in the event flag, meaning that the online software detected an error in the data format (the offline code needs to be updated to recognize this bit, I think). The "bad" events will have 16 dead channels in the outer FEA of wedge 5 (the wedge that will seem to be wedge 4) ps file hot/dead channels ChebyCal ChebyCon
1731 7/22/98 11K 2020 240 24 FEAS in quadrants 1 and 3. Done Only 2/8 FEAS in superlayer 1 have hits (wedge 7 and 8). There is a hole in wedge 5, superlayer 4. ps file hot/dead channels ChebyCal ChebyCon
