Results from Shielding Experiments

Terry Geld
BRG Meeting
05 Feb 1999

Description of Experiments

  • Three Pb-glass cerenkov counters => similar to SOB response. PMT signal is taken into a discriminator and then into a frequency to voltage converter. The FVC signal is sent to MCC and written to the history buffers. All results are from history buffer analysis.
  • Fall98: Results from HER shielding at z~-12m with one (9X_0) or two (18X_0) lead bricks. One lead brick is enough to kill the background. Note: a concrete shielding block is about 9X_0.
  • Jan99: Results from HER shielding at z~-13m with one (9X_0) lead brick or 1/4" (1X_0) lead sheet. The lead sheet is not enough to block all the background. We'll need more than a thin lead wall.
  • Jan99: Results from LER shielding at z~+13m with no shielding and 3/8" (1.5X_0) lead sheet. The lead sheet is not enough to block all the background. Again, we'll need more than a thin lead wall.
