Masek" Subject: Please try out the web layout program Dear one and all, As you may be aware, we, the BaBar webteam, have been given the task of redesigning the BaBar web in order to make it easier for BaBarians to locate the information they require. The first main phase of this operation is to create some hierarchical structure which makes navigating around the web a less painful experience. You can help us decide how this new web will be layed out by using our new "Web Layout" program to record your vision of where the main sections of the BaBar web should be located and how the various sections connect to each other and to the main homepage. We have selected collaborators with different levels of experience and different areas of expertise, including some students who have quite recently joined BaBar. The various layouts will be collated by the WebMaster and WebTeam and used to produce a more satisfactory web design. Run the program on a SLAC unix machine by typing ~miw/newweb/weblayout.tk which will cause a new window to appear on your screen. Then click on "help" and read the README file which will explain how the program works. It should take you no more than half an hour to create your design and we trust you will find it a time well spent and pretty fun too. When you have finished your design, please e-mail the .web file to the BaBar WebMaster at miw@slac.stanford.edu. Furthermore, If you have any strong feelings or concerns about how the web should be redesigned or if you could point out some particular areas of the current web which you feel need particular attention (e.g. web pages which are poorly designed, difficult to find, or containing out-of-date information) then please send another e-mail to miw@slac.stanford.edu. We would appreciate it if you could send us your designs and comments as soon as possible and by monday the 7th at the latest. The more designs we get the better so we hope you can spare some time to record your vision and share it with us. Thanks in advance for your help.
