Online phone meetings

NB: OEP meetings are now _every_ Wednesday at _16:00_, in the IR-2 conference room. (Actually they may start late if the daily operations meeting at 15:30 runs long, but we will try to avoid that except in emergencies.)

The cross-subsystem online meetings change their focus on a rotating basis, among general online issues (weekly) and Online Event Processing (OEP) (now weekly). (The biweekly Calibration meetings have been suspended.) This page covers all these meetings. [Information for the former DataFlow and Detector Control meetings are also provided when available in the BFMAIL archive.]

The current meeting schedule is:

  • Week 1
    • Monday: Calibration @ 08:30 PT (phase of 99.1.11, same as biweekly simulation phone meeting) [suspended]
    • Wednesday: Online Event Processing (OEP) @ 16:00 PT, IR-2 Cornelius conference room
    • Thursday: General online issues @ 08:30 PT, Group A Conference Room [when needed]
  • Week 2
    • Wednesday: Online Event Processing (OEP) @ 16:00 PT, IR-2 Cornelius conference room
    • Thursday: General online issues @ 08:30 PT, Group A conference room [when needed]

The indicated starting time is in the Pacific time zone. The dial-in number is +1-973-321-2000, and the conference "security code" is 20689. The general online meetings are currently hosted at SLAC in the Group A Conference Room (CLA B188) on the ground floor of the Central Lab Annex, and the OEP meetings are in the Cornelius conference room in IR-2 (Bldg. 621). See below for further details.

Organizational Details

Monday and Thursday morning slots were set aside, as decided at the Bristol collaboration meeting, for these detector subsystem-oriented online meetings. Subsequently, the Monday meeting conflicting with the biweekly Common Reconstruction meeting was moved to Wednesday. The meeting schedule will be revisited over time as experience is gained with its effectiveness.

Meeting announcements go out over the ONLINE mailing list in the BFMAIL system. (Calibration meeting announcements go out through the Calibration HyperNews forum.)

The subsystem online meetings are teleconferences arranged through a commercial conference service. Participants generally must dial in to the conference from their own telephones. A confirmation of dialing instructions will be posted for each meeting, but generally we will use standing reservations, the details of which are:

Dial-in number +1-973-321-2000
Security code 20689
Host Gerry Abrams
SLAC room Group A Conference

An hour and a half of time is reserved for each meeting, though typically an effort is made to conclude in about an hour.

If you have a touch-tone telephone, after you have dialed the conference center you may then connect directly to the teleconference by dialing the security code followed by the "number sign" ("#") key. Otherwise, you may request the "SLAC online meeting moderated by {host}" when you are connected to the conference service operator.

If you use the security code system, your name will not be announced. Instead, parties to the conference will hear a distinctive tone when you connect, and another tone when you disconnect. If you are the first party to connect, you will hear nothing but silence until the next party comes in. If you need assistance during a call, you may dial "*0" ("star, zero") to be connected to an operator.

At SLAC, the Group A Conference Room is B-188 on the ground floor of the Central Lab Annex. Occasionally the SLUO Conference Room (B-140, Central Lab Annex) or the Group C Conference Room (B-259, Central Lab Annex) have been used if the Group A room is not available, so it's best to verify the details against the actual announcements.

The meetings will generally have an agenda published in advance through e-mail and/or on this page, though they will also be able to address urgent present concerns. All subsystems are strongly urged to make sure that their appropriate contact persons (Calibration | DataFlow | OEP) attend these meetings. There may be considerable overlap of the interests of the calibration contacts and those of the DataFlow and OEP contacts; if so, all interested parties should attend.

Materials to be covered in a meeting may be posted on this page, ideally sufficiently far in advance that they can be studied by participants before the meeting. Preferred formats are HTML, Acrobat/PDF, and text. Postscript is acceptable, though some care should be taken to ensure that it is viewable with Ghostview and GSView.
