Simulation meeting minutes, 13 Sept 2004
Present: Steve R, Dennis, Brian, David, Bill, Abi, Patrick, Dave A, Ted F,
Contributions to the meeting should be placed
here
and linked to the agenda located
here.
- Core issues:
- Dennis: requested to compile g4 toolkit with gcc3 for redhat linux.
Steve Gowdy would also like a mac versio. This compiles, but still has some problems with 6.1.
Bertini cascade model kaon extension is now done, quasi-elastic scattering data agrees pretty will in peak, but
some normalization issues (~30%). Testing continues. As added bonus, also can be used for strange baryons (no
data!). Resonances are not there, but model uses free nucleon crosssections.
- Subsystems:
- PEP/MDI/Backgrounds: Status reports on TURTLE, G4 extended beamline and progress
towards common bhabha/turtle ntuple production:
- Bill: Last week bgsim meeting one subsystem looked at putting reconstructed EMC hits (Nick Barlow) in
EmcOprMon. Preferred solution is to instead add package based on BgsUser to provide common ntuple for
all subsystems. Appear to be no technical problems with doing so.
- Ted Fieguth: recieved changes from Roger. List of priorities is unchanged from last week: will put in her
apertures in region {-50m, -5m}. Have flat file for LER but will have to do HER from mad file. LER optics are
ok. Should be no problem to generate "small" test runs for use by Bill, Steve et al. for validation of G4
simulation and subsystem ntuples.
- Bill: Neutron fluence on B1 from lost-particles and/or radiative bhabhas are top priority operational issue
due to possibility of B1 upgrade next year. Gray Bower has expressed interest (also part of scope of McGill grad
student project). Neutron source is probably primarily q2 septum. Dennis has worked on producing
biased crosssections to give enhanced neutron rate. Can potentially put neutron counter and/or neutron source
(at q2) in simulation.
- SVT: Bill has student working on putting in the the z-fanouts (on inner side of modules). Will also look
at adding material outside of tracking region. Q: Who to contact for information? A: David Brown. Will
hopefully be ready for sp8.
- DCH: Updates to dch crosstalk correction now in 15.7.1. Can run new crosstalk model in a release, but
no changes by default until feedback is recieved from physics groups. Will generate ntuples for PID and trigger
group over next week or so (BB dimuon and bhabha O(10k). Expect very little impact on PID, but need blessing of
group. Potentially big effect on hit efficiencies, but should look more like data.
- DRC: nothing
- EMC: not present
- IFR: not present
- Trigger: not present
- Fast MC
- Generators
- Updates to JETSET - Brian
- Bill: would like to modify new radiative bahbha generator so that it does not track non-brem
electron from BBBREM. Currently spend ~12s/event (including reconstruction). Hope to save ~1/3 of time but not
stepping non-interacting electron down beampipe.
