Simulation meeting minutes, 24 May 2004
- Core issues
- MOOSE
- Dennis: MOOSE was crashing early because trgDC/dbinf.F was unable
to read blank lines in the runtime.db flat file. If blank lines
are removed, MOOSE runs a while longer. Why this happens is
unclear since this package was supposedly untouched for a long
time. Maybe a compiler change is at fault.
- BgsApp
- Dennis: Moose next crashed in BgsApp. This was not due to a
transportation error as first thought, but a bug introduced in
BgsLimitedMagField during the background studies work. A new tag
of Bogus will contain the fix.
- Background analysis package
- Bill: a new package, BgsUser, which is similar to QaSimHists, is
now available for use in background studies.
- Bill: SimUtils, QaSimHists and Bogus have also been updated.
- Subsystems:
- PEP/MDI/High-intensity backgrounds
- Field studies:
- Gary: conceptual differences were discovered between MagBends and
Bogus in how magnets are represented. MagBends does not
actually rotate the magnets but instead slices them and displaces
the slices. This could lead to a small error in the particle
position. See the diagrams
Current errors are of the order 1 mm after 10 m of propagation.
How good does this need to be?
- GHits in Pep
- There are now hit-scoring planes and neutron detectors in Pep. For
details see the
report .
- Geometry
- Mario: new polyhedra for describing the beam pipe are ready.
Pictures can be seen in the
jpeg files. . A new class, BgsPolyhedra, has been developed to handle these volumes.
- SVT
- DCH
- Jeff Wilson: the cross talk simulation has been split into analog,
which is determined by geometry, and TDC, which is determined by
electronic correlations which can wipe out correct hits. So far
these cross talk parts do not behave as expected when the cross
talk is changed. Work continues.
- DRC
- EMC
- IFR: no report
- AOB
- Steve: a one-day simulation workshop is being planned for the
next collaboration meeting. Would like to have input as to
what is wanted and what is important in simulation.
- Next meeting: 7 June
