PEP status

Not much new in the simulation since David Kirkby's detailed update in a simulation meeting Mar 21 (on the web) where he reported on
  • minor updates to beampipe, B1 magnet, support tube, shielding
  • major Q1 magnet, Q2 septum chamber revisions reflecting latest design. Lost-particle and neutron backgrounds should be recalculated with this geometry.
  • new support for PEP-II magnets and beams: provides framework for simulating beam-related backgrounds (a la TURTLE) in BBSIM. Synchrotron radiation, injection losses, lost particles. New beam simulation database beam.db.

Recent work has been directed towards '97 commissioning IR and background studies.

Some pending (?) items from David or extracted from March meeting minutes:

  • David and Bill will arrange for SVT to move to the interior of the support tube mother volume.
  • Dave Coupal commented that the material on the outward side of Q2 needs to be included, as Fred has noticed high backgrounds in the forward region which this material would reduce.
  • David encountered a problem with the field in that GUFLD imposed no z cutoff. Roberto's new model (below) falls more realistically to near zero in z but will still need to be zeroed out so as not to contribute to the beam line fields outside the detector.
  • Q1 magnet to be split into Q1A, Q1B magnets to match latest IR design
  • Update endplug design to be compatible with latest IFR geometry
