Review scheduled for Tue Sep 3 (afternoon) and Wed Sep 4 at SLAC
Draft charge for the review
I emphasize, it's a draft.
The BaBar experiment at PEP-II will be a high precision, high statistics
experiment. Accurate simulation of the experiment has been and will continue
to be vital to its success. As we move from the design phase
of the experiment into the construction phase, we have the
oppportunity to review in detail the current status and future plans
for the simulation software.
This review should focus on the current status of both the detailed and
the fast detector simulation and the plans for their develpment.
In particular the commitee should consider:
o Current status and adequacy of the detailed and fast simulations
of the detector, as the principle tools for evaluating detector and
physics performance.
o The status of and plans for the physics event generation and its
interface to the detector simulation.
o Interfacing of simulation work to C++ based reconstruction software
and real data.
o Status and plans for the evolution of the simulation software and the move
towards OO/C++ based simulation tools (GEANT4)
o The plans for Monte Carlo data production and the ability of the system
to scale effectively to cope with the foreseen simulation requirements.
o Are the avilable resources adequate for the tasks.
o Are available resources within and ouside the collaboration used effectively.
Review preparation
- First meeting: Fri July 26, 8:30am CA time.
- Will have a draft agenda for the first meeting
- Will want to spread around the speaking duties; discuss when draft agenda is in hand
- need to develop for each subsystem a concise demonstration of the detail and performance level of the simulation; subsystem coordinators please think about this prior to the first meeting. There probably won't be time for individual talks on the
subsystem simulations.
Some areas in particular need of attention:
- pre-review Aslund parametrization updates for the outer detectors EMC: Paul's code in hand, will be put in; DRC: status?; IFR: need a volunteer urgently, as what's in their now isn't defensible. [Geometry generation from dbio/BBSIM will be in]
- considerations of interfacing simulation and real data
- timescale for Geant4 essentials, should be clarified in Vancouver
- scalability of production management, particularly post-production data management given manpower shortage at SLAC
- estimates of future resource requirements. Need input from simulation consumers as well.
- anyone wish to add anything?
Anyone want to volunteer for a busy August on a simu review squad putting out fires in simu review preparation? |
