BaBar reconstruction workshop, Stanford, February 27 and 28, 1998

A reconstruction workshop was be held on the Stanford campus on February 27 and 28, preceeding the collaboration meeting. The emphasis was on technical discussions of specific problems and the solutions we are evolving, with emphasis on the areas of calibration and alignment, reconstruction with backgrounds present, the eventual migration to event and calibration databases, and the ongoing Mock Data Challenge.

Recent Changes

  • 4 Mar, 1998 -- Start to add slides and notes (Bob)
  • 20 Feb, 1998 -- Shuffled schedule (Bob)
  • 17 Feb, 1998 -- Agenda update (Bob)
  • 2 Feb, 1998 -- Created page (Bob)

Contributed slides are being scanned. See also the agenda below, where links to specific items are being added.

This meeting was on the Stanford Campus. For more information, look at their information page.

Friday Feb 27, 1998 - Stanford Campus, Varian Physics Bldg., Rm 208

Note that due to a "safety standown" at SLAC that morning, the reco workshop cannot start until 11AM.
11:00 - 12:30 AM Timing information, bunch finding (Organizer: Steve Schaffner)
What information & support is available already?
How are we going to distribute and use bunch information?
Where are cable delays corrected?
1:30 - 3:00 PM Timing and bunch finding continue (Organizer: Steve Schaffner)
3:30 - 5:00 PM Alignment (Organizer: Reiner Seitz)
Update on detector survey plans
Harvey Lynch, to be confirmed
Global alignment of tracking and other systems
As there won't be another workshop before some of the detector elements start to take cosmics, we should discuss aspects of alignment with cosmics
When are pieces available for alignment?
What data do we need to make permanent?
What event samples?
How to select good events?

Saturday Feb 28, 1998 Stanford Campus, Varian Physics Bldg., Rm 208

9:00 - 10:30 AM Prompt reconstruction (Organizer: Tom Glanzman)
status of prompt reconstruction, current thinking on:
  • Logging and monitoring mechanisms
  • Calibration needs

Slides from talks:

  • Needs from Subsystems (3pp ps)
  • Online farm performance summary (slides from Tom Pavel's talk)
  • Status of the Distributed Histogram package

    What modifications do we need?
    Discussion
1:30 - 3:00 PM Alignment (Organizer: Reiner Seitz)
    Overflow from Friday
Specific system alignment issues & progress reports
3:30 - 5:00 PM Any Other Business (Organizer: Bob Jacobsen)
Are our Digis stable? Do they have the right form?
    Persistent solutions that work
Likelihood, consistency, and changes to those
    Release schedule changes?
