bbftp Installation

bbftp is a file transfer tool specially optimised for bulk data transfer over wide-area networks. It needs to be available to both the client and server machines. The client program is bbftp and the server program is bbftpd. Both are installed at SLAC at
/afs/slac.stanford.edu/public/software/bbftp/bin/bbftp
/afs/slac.stanford.edu/public/software/bbftp/bin/bbftpd
This provides versions for the BaBar supported platforms, Solaris, OSF, and Linux (whichever architecture you are currently using).

If AFS is available at your site, these binaries can of course be executed directly (no AFS token is required), or copied to a local disk.

Alternatively, the bbftp binaries (with basic documentation) for your architecture can be downloaded from the appropriate one of:

/afs/slac.stanford.edu/public/software/bbftp/dist/bbftp-SunOS5.tar.gz
/afs/slac.stanford.edu/public/software/bbftp/dist/bbftp-OSF1V4.tar.gz
/afs/slac.stanford.edu/public/software/bbftp/dist/bbftp-Linux2.tar.gz

Alternatively, the bbftp source can be downloaded and rebuilt for your configuration (eg. for another architecture, or to enable AFS login for bbftpd).

See the bbftp home page for full documentation.
