FAQ Answerpage

QUESTION:
How to avoid picking the wrong database version.

ANSWER:
To avoid picking the wrong database version, you should always execute the command setboot from the root or below-the-root directory of the BaBar software release being used.

Do not set the environment variable OO_FD_BOOT in your .cshrc (and similar) files: it is possible that you might have more than one database and not know it! A wrong copy of the database might not contain needed data that various applications indirectly use (such as the detector geometry).

Using a wrong database might cause the applications to behave erratically and, thus, make diagnosis difficult.

Note that some BaBar software releases from different series use different databases.

The above is true even for the same version of Objectivity.
