OpenOffice Setup for Windows

Real quick start on using OpenOffice in Windows:

  1. Open the file browser
  2. Run the install program 'X:\Applications\Unsupported\OpenOffice\OpenOffice1.0\install\setup.exe'
  3. Answer all the questions, and let the program install OpenOffice on your machine.
  4. Choose OpenOffice programs from the Start menu
  5. Go nuts

Further details on use in Windows

Actually I don't have any. I do not use Windows. (Nor have I ever used Windows. I have heard about it, but I am not clear what it does or what it is good for.) So, I need people to give this a try and send suggestions to me to add to this page.

There are some concerns, you will need admin privilege on the machine to install this. Desktop support can give you this, or install these programs for you. I will be working with Desktop support to see how this can be easier for people to use from anywhere on site.

I want to make sure that OpenOffice can fully be used on all the presentation machines on site, in all the meeting rooms, so people can generate OpenOffice presentations for meetings. This is not done yet, but will get done in the near future. (For some reason all the presentation machines are setup to use Windows, but there are no Linux or Solaris presentation machines. It doesn't have to be this way.)

If you have problems with setup and use, please tell me and I will add it to this page.
