Section 2 of this guide provides an overview of the software release directories and some background material. It can be skipped if you just want to move on to the
recipes. In Section 3 the SRT functions that the typical B A B A R users will need are described. These can be used to create your own,
private software releases, with or without modifying code. Generally, this will be a ``lightweight'' collection of directories which is tied to a full B A B A R release. Users can modify
packages, or add their own packages, and link them with the standard code. Section 5 describes some more functions that are needed by some non-SLAC sites to maintain their own ``mirrors'' of the software
release structures. Instructions for creating a new package are outlined in Section 6. Finally, some miscellaneous functions are mentioned in the last section. Some of these are useful only to the Release
Coordinators and a few other specialized users.
For more detailed descriptions of specific commands, check the man pages. They can be accessed as in the following example:
http://www.slac.stanford.edu/cgi-wrap/bfman/page?addpkg
substitute the command you want for ``addpkg''. Or get a list:
http://www.slac.stanford.edu/cgi-wrap/bfman/page?
Note that these links access the man page that is part of the ``current'' release. The ``head'' of the SoftRelTools package has the newest versions of the man pages.
Commands and specific file names are indicated using this ``teletype'' typeface. Text for which you need to substitute an appropriate value is indicated by <slanted type face enclosed in angle brackets>.
