The World Wide Web

The World Wide Web, or simply WWW or ``the web'', is extensively used by B A B A R. The main entry point for B A B A R information is the ``SLAC BABAR Detector Home Page'', the URL for which is
/BFROOT/doc/www/bfHome.html
Optionally, this can be abbreviated to
/BFROOT/

Much of the information contained in this guide is also available on (and was copied from) the B A B A R web pages.

The B A B A R home page contains important news and announcements, links to general collaboration information and links to much more specific B A B A R subsystem information. One link on the home page points to a regular (approximately weekly) newsletter which, among other things, gives details of all forthcoming meetings.

For collaborators not based in North America alternative ``mirror'' sites are also available for browsing the B A B A R web pages. There is currently one mirror site, at the Rutherford Appleton lab in the UK. The URL for these pages is

http://hepunx.rl.ac.uk/BFROOT/doc/www/bfHome.html
You can also ``switch'' to this web site from the SLAC page by clicking on the appropriate ``anchor'' at the top of the page. Using these mirror pages should significantly improve the usability of the web for European collaborators as it avoids having to transfer every page across from North America. Some items, such as the PEP-II database access can not be mirrored and must always be performed directly to the US. In general any public web page can be accessed from any B A B A R web mirror simply by replacing //www.slac.stanford.edu/ with the server address, e.g. //hepunx.rl.ac.uk/. The remaining part of the URL (BFROOT etc. should be identical).

Most collaborating institutes also have their own web pages, often continuing a lot of information relevant to B A B A R . These Institute pages can be found by following the link to ``Home pages of collaborating institutes'' on the B A B A R home page.
