SLUO and BABAR Databases
Last Updated: 21 Jun 2008
SLAC requires all users of laboratory facilities to register with SLAC's
Information Database (SID), maintained by the SLAC User's
Organization (SLUO).
Babar requires that all participants on the Babar experiment register with
the Babar database.
The registration for both the SLAC Information Database and the Babar database
is done via the web form
SLAC Information Form.
When a user fills out the SLAC form the data is sent to the SLUO office,
the principal investigator and/or sponsor and Babar administrator.
The principal investigator or sponsor must reply with a confirmation email
before a user can be added to both databases.
Confirmation establishes several things for a user:
- The start and stop date (stop date is null if user's work is ongoing)
- Member or Associate status
- Home institution and contact information
- Slac office and phone (if available)
- Phone atom (the person who takes care of your phone service)
- Primary email address
- Eligibility for Slac resources
Resources, such as computer accounts, are available to people who are
registered in the Slac and Babar databases. All participants of the
BABAR experiment are eligible for a SLAC Computer account.
As of December 1997, the Computing Division helpdesk will only process computer account
requests for those users who have registered and are in the SLAC and Babar
databases. If the Computing Division helpdesk does not find your name in the database
they will hold on to the account paperwork until your information appears so
you may submit the paperwork for a SLAC computer account at anytime.
Users working on the BABAR experiment
When filling out the form, please select
BABAR from the menu labeled Experiment you will be working on. The contact person or SLAC sponsor is
normally the principal investigator of your institution. If you do not
have a principal investigator then enter the name of the person you
will be working with at SLAC. Once the form has been submitted the
information will be confirmed and then entered into the SLAC Information
Database and the BABAR database.
** Note - You must fill out the SLAC user form
if you are working on the BABAR experiment and you are:
- A new user to Babar
- Returning to SLAC after being away (i.e. returning after working in industry)
- Transferring from one experiment to another
- Working under a different institution
- Returning to SLAC as a consultant
- Previously a SLAC employee now becoming a SLAC user
- Paid by SLAC
In addition, you must be listed in the BABAR experiment
database as a member of the collaboration or otherwise
associated with the BABAR community. If you have filled out the SLAC user
form email will be sent to your principal investigator or sponsor for
confirmation to work on the babar experiment.
Becoming a member of the
BABAR collaboration requires approval from the principal investigator
or sponsor at the collaborating institution. Associating with the BABAR
community requires a BABAR sponsor. Existing BABAR members who
wish to nominate someone to join the BABAR community should have the
nominee fill out the SLAC Information Form
A person's status may be verified on-line using the
BaBar
People Search webpage. If you are associated with BABAR, but not listed
in the Babar database, please contact the
Babar Administrator,
Donna Hernandez.
She can answer questions you may have about BABAR membership.
